The Mom's Guide to to Earning and Saving Thousands on the Internet by By Barb Webb & Maureen Heck.![]()
I've had the privilege of knowing Maureen Heck through a Mom's group and her wealth of knowledge never ceases to amaze me. A New Jersey native, Maureen is a Stay-at-Home Mother to a beautiful little girl. She remarks that a huge motivating factor of co-authoring the mom's guide was that exploring the information in the book even helped her family survive on one income.
The book presents numerous tips on ways to earn extra money on the internet and ways to save money through various online deals and coupons. The authors also share their tips on avoiding scammers and spam. It will be featured in the April Edition of Womans Day.
Q. How did you decide to write the book?
The book was the brain child of my co author, Barb Webb. She had been kicking the idea around in her head for a while, but was looking for someone to co-author it with her. We had been sharing our writing for a little while, and she felt my style complimented hers, and asked me if I wanted to take on the project with her. I will be eternally in her debt for the experience, even if we never make another dime off the book.
Q. What is your favorite subject to write on?
Fiction is my passion. I like the scary stuff, and would love to publish a full length thriller novel, or something paranormal. I also love comedy, you know, Erma Bombeck type stuff, she tickles my funny bone.
Q. What is the best part about being a mother?
The best part about being a mother, for me, is just being one. Children were not part of my "life plan", but now that I have my daughter, I couldn't imagine my life without her. She has completed me as a person in ways I never thought possible. I get to see life through the eyes of a five year old each and every day. That is an amazing thing.
Q. What advice do you have for other moms?
Let your children keep you young. Get down on the floor with them, play games, have a burping contest, go outside and blow bubbles. Childhood is fleeting, and over before you know it. Embrace it, enjoy it, and live it, with your kids.
Q. What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Never give up. There is something to be learned with each and every rejection you receive. Use them to make you a better writer, and never get discouraged. Write something everyday, you become a better writer everytime you put something on paper.
Q. If you had to choose between Eating nothing but hot pepper sandwiches for a week or a bake-off with Martha Stewart, which would you choose?
That's easy! Hot pepper, I love. Martha Stewart, not so much. Plus, she could out bake me blindfolded, and who needs that sort of embarrassment?
Q. What are your tips for bargain shopping on the web?
Well, without violating copyright laws ;), I will say use coupon codes whenever possible, shop clearance sales, and comparison shop. Read the chapter in our book, lots of good advice there.
Q. Why should we buy this book?
Because it would make me happy, and my happiness matters, no? Seriously, there is a lot of imformation piled into an easy to understand and follow guide. We have done the work for you, leaving you to enjoy the spoils of the internet. There is something for everyone in this book. Even my father tells me he has learned a lot, hes not even a woman, let alone a mom!
Q. Are you wearing panties (just kidding).
What if I said I weren't? ;)
Q. Who is your role model?
My role model, hmmm, you ask tough questions. I don't have a specific role model. I am who I am, and do not try to be anything I am not. I think, if I had a gun held to my head and had to choose, I would say all strong women everywhere can serve as my collective role models. There are parts of so many women I know that inspire and encourage me to be a better person, I want to be like them when I grow up.
Q. What is your dream handbag or pair of shoes?
I would love a Dooney & Bourke handbag, they have such fun designs! I would love something fun from the Star or Hearts collection, and then a leather bag for more formal occasions. I'm not a fashion maven though, so I can't justify spending a ton of money on handbags. Maybe if everyone that reads this buys my book--hmmm.
Q. Favorite Comedian?
Favorite comedian of all time, by far, Eddie Murphy.
Thanks to Maureen Heck for answering my probing questions!
